From national security to global security

- Climate is global
- Biotech is global
- Terrorism is global
- Human rights are global
We need to take the kind of intelligence which produced the thermonuclear bombs and military war planes and apply it to solving the global security problems we all face. We need to turn the genius and power of the military, and point them at the real problem.
That’s why.
Beating swords into plowshares requires quite a furnace. Where are we going to get the heat to compel such a change?
The very best military thinkers want to change the world for the better, and are willing to lay down their lives to do it.
Perhaps we need to decouple that impulse from narrow nation-state confines and allow the military to operate as a technology development engine for the world’s other problems?
Maybe?
I hope you are right. We will know you are right if certain appropriate technologies start rapidly migrating out of that world and into ours.
