Zoom H2 quadraphonic four microphone / four track audio interview recording trick
Here’s the trick: record in quad.
In Audacity, invert either the front or the rear track.
What happens is that the ambient noise which hits all four mics about equally is significantly subtracted out, leaving the voices (which are significantly different between front and rear mics) synchronize out.
Works really well, I was amazed.

20 minutes, audio only, discussion about the global swadeshi ideal, global capitalism, and long term futures. Great stuff.

This one is actually quite nice to watch
which makes a nice change.
five verses on training the mind
I gave ten years
to sharpening the axe
and weaving the noose
I learned to wait with patience
while the cogs of life
spun to my desired settings
You must treat the mind
as a body to be cultured
before climbing into space
the delicate coordination
of extraordinary
and mundane
is the key
to opening
life as heaven

I don’t write much about meditation. I should. It’s foundational. For people who think for a living it’s probably the single greatest investment that can be made in career, in productivity, in serenity, and most especially, in effectiveness.
Global Systems Mapping
Shows roughly how the infrastructure works in a modern society. It’s the “general case” - to really get the detail down requires configuring the diagram for a specific place and time, but I think the rapid overview picture is still extremely useful.
A work in progress.
Five things on the chart.
1> Six Ways To Die (the target in the center.) Each ring is 10x the mortality rate, from 1/10000 to 1/10
2> Status dot showing current mortality for the population at hand.
3> Various things which impact the mortality - things like the water supply, the power grid, the food transportation grid, farms, and so on.
4> Range of those things from the individual level - individual, household, town, regional, national. Helps show what can break if networks are disrupted.
5> Simplified infrastructure interdependencies.
Observations: it’s astonishingly complicated, much more so that I’d thought it would be, and this is just a rough draft.
It’ll also show, very nicely, why the hexayurt infrastructure system is a very good idea, because that version of the graph has *almost no dependencies* on the various grids. And this makes it very, very clear.

Surprising
Founder of the Hare Krishnas - surprisingly clear and lucid and direct. No mention (so far) of chanting Gournanga and being Happy. I’d never seen any of his material directly, only filtered by the organization, and he’s more impressive than they make him look.
Gizmo Project on OS X - “Starting Agent” problem fixed!
So here’s what I did.
1> Copy Gizmo.App to Gizmo copy.App
2> Run Gizmo copy.App
After months of “Starting Agent” hanging, it Just Works. I have no idea why this is the case, but I picked up the idea from one of the forum posts, and it seemed to do the trick.
