As the new world that we’re in, post US sovereign default crisis, Norwegian shootings and London riots settles in, I’m feeling a strong pull to wind up more parts of my life. For the time being, I’m substantially done with politics. I’ve made all the arguments I need to. I’m not saying that I won’t [...]

((The Gupta State Failure Management Archive, 4.3gb of lectures and documents on managing state failure, is in the Public Domain and available for download.)) The London Situation: Threat Modeling I was asked today to think about gear lists for the London situation, and about framing the risks of being in London period. I’m not sure [...]

It’s come time for me to “declare victory” on two projects. 1) The Institute for Collapsonomics got going on this blog well over two years ago, in March 2009. The US has just narrowly avoided a sovereign default at which point there is no further need to argue about whether economic risks to the global [...]

On the Practical Exercise of Power – or why the Old White Dudes keep winning

    by  • July 26, 2011 • Everything Else • 4 Comments

Umair Haque would like a taste of power. My suggestion is: let’s leave those stuck in a predictable, homogeneous, stagnating, we’d-believe-you-more-if-you-were-an-old-white-dude past in the past. Let’s smash through the iron curtains of the status quo–by creating the future. {source: Sidenotes: Smashing The Status Quo’s Iron Curtains} The reason the Old White Dudes (OWD) are in [...]

Hexayurt H13 at the Cloughjordan Ecovillage

    by  • June 30, 2011 • Hexayurt • 9 Comments

We just built a Hexayurt H13 at the Cloughjordan Ecovillage. The H13 was designed by Scott Davis and Dylan Toymaker. The H13 adds one panel to the “classic” H12 hexayurt, but that one extra sheet of plywood gets an 8′ roof line and three times the walkable space inside the hexayurt. It’s a really beautiful [...]
