Here is an interesting thought from the presentation by Adrian Bowyer of the RepRap project at the recent Go Open 2008 that I attended in Norway. “People can make patented things for themselves” Patentregulation prevents commercial agents without a license to sell people products covered by patents. In the future people will have in their [...]

Interview with Jan Chipchase, Nokia’s “how phones are used around the world” guy

    by  • April 13, 2008 • 0 Comments

Some of the mobile phone’s biggest boosters are those who believe that pumping international aid money into poor countries is less effective than encouraging economic growth through commerce, also called “inclusive capitalism.” A cellphone in the hands of an Indian fisherman who uses it to grow his business — which presumably gives him more resources [...]

    The Perfect Game.

    by  • April 13, 2008 • 0 Comments

So I think I’ve found a perfect game. The researchers set about compiling data from published literature to investigate the two chief objections to organic farming: low yields and lack of organically acceptable nitrogen sources. Their findings refute those key arguments, Perfecto said, and confirm that organic farming is [...]

Even for me I was on a tear. http://newfluwiki2.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2356#92400 The SPRS paper is definitely designed to stake out an unusual position – fundamental optimism about dealing with a high CFR flu outbreak. As such it runs directly contrary to a lot of established wisdom. To really get into the details of why I think it [...]

    Obama: Mighty Impressive

    by  • April 12, 2008 • 2 Comments

I think that Ron Paul was much needed chlorine in the pool – but a little goes a long way. Obama looks like an electable post-cold war president, somebody who can actually move America forwards. I’m not sure that America has a lot of strong options going forward – the mess that they’ve made of [...]

http://newfluwiki2.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2356#92150 Good doctor, I’m simply Mr. Gupta. http://files.howtolivewiki.com/TIDES_PACKET/TIDES_BOARDS_V2_low_resolution.pdf This is a roughly 40 page document I did for the http://STAR-TIDES.net project – a sort of distributed thinktank on infrastructure issues as they pertain to emergencies and sustainable development, mostly operated by National Defense University. It gives a pretty good overview of some important models for [...]
