Much better video to follow – this is what I shot with my Xacti E1 from a tripod in the back of the room!

Top stuff. The mobile phone stats – and the idea that, given an Android, squillions of people would be Googling for ‘clean water’ – is really powerful. Like, viewpoint-shifting. I’d be tempted to lead with that, then cover the causes of death, then cherry-pick a few example technologies to illustrate the wider point. But it’s top stuff as it is.
It’s also good to see the dark-background slide trick at work – reasonable exposure on the room, and the slides are legible. It’s a great hack.
Well done. Add that systemic disruption has the potential to cause sudden poverty even in now-money-rich places, and dieing from it, and that’s about it. Distributed infrastructure == health insurance.
I’m really glad you liked the talk and, yes, I thought of your advice on getting the slides to work with the black background when I made them that way – you’re my video guru!
I’m still burning off my pessimism. Like with the pandemic flu paper http://guptaoption.com/6.SPRS.php – the first version was apocalyptic, then it got less negative by degrees as I just got more comfortable with it all. I suspect the next version of the talk – the hour version – will be downright cheery
PS: Conor says hi!
Hey Vinay!
You weren’t in London three days ago were you? I guess not. Looks like you’ve cut your hair from all these photos. I was told by one of the Alphabet Kids that you are in fact in Iceland, but it was so weird, b/c this guy looked like you from far away.
This Hexayurt stuff (and your other projects) seem to really have taken off. I’ve watched a few of your videos on youtube too. Anyway, best of luck and talk to you soon.
Excellent presentation. This is the one I’ll be sending around.
