I gave this talk – about how appropriate technology can save billions of people from the worst effects of poverty – in Reykjavik earlier this year. Here are the slides from the talk and a link to a discussion thread on Global Swadeshi, a poverty alleviation / appropriate technology social network. (gv link)

      Hello,

Excellent concept, I have arrived at similar conclusions and am traveling down a very similar path with my work.

I am part of a team of people developing open hardware designs for low cost telephony. My specific interest is using this technology to help people in the developing world.

Google on “village telco” and “open hardware wired” (recent article in Wired magazine).

It would be nice to touch base via email or phone some time.

      Cheers,

      David
