Why it’s over.

The situation requires a Jefferson.
There isn’t one. For whatever reason, the strident, terrifying voices of eternal hostility to tyranny over the mind of man, of give me liberty of give me death, are stilled. The words are mouthed, but without the spirit to back them up.
The cultural forces which produce that kind of greatness are not present in America today. If they were, there would be a front line, united, ferocious, and terrifying. Instead, the left bleats, and the right blusters, and authoritarianism runs amuck.
You just need to listen to the rhetoric. There is no thundering principles, only whiny expediences. Those who will die rather than be moved, and therefore steer the culture, are absent. Where is the perpetual riot at the white house gates protesting the violation of the rights of every American, and those poor souls who have fallen into the secret prisons and dungeons of the empire.
This is not what was promised by the giants of the past. This is not the America of dream and legend, but the diminished union of moral midgets, unfit for power.
The torch is passed, for those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear.
